The 6th annual Iowa Hickory Classic, sponsored by the Hickory Golf Association, is scheduled for Sept. 7-8 at the Hyperion Field Club of Johnston, Iowa. The Friday evening reception follows the optional Friday practice round. The reception features the best of Scottish delicacies prepared by Hyperion Chef Bill Valentino along with a spirited trade show. There is no charge for the trade tables. This early fall classic has averaged more than 50 players every year at this 1910 architectural gem designed by the “Johnny Appleseed of American Golf” – Tom Bendelow of Aberdeen, Scotland. The projected cost is approximately $100 per player, which includes three meals, golf, cart, range, trade show, trophies, prizes, and a welcome tee gift. Look for finalized costs and registration form on your favorite hickory golf web site early in 2012. Divisions include Men’s Open and Reserve, Senior Open and Reserve, Scramble and Ladies Divisions for every level of play. Tournament is sponsored by the Hickory Golf Association and generally follows SoHG equipment guidelines. Non-golfing spouses and friends are welcome and the directors will help them find plenty of agreeable activities in the nearby areas. Accommodations are plentiful within the area and no more than 20 minutes from the course.
