Hickory Golf Association

Foxburg Hickory Championship

August 10, 2012 - August 11, 2012
Foxburg Country Club - Foxburg, Pennsylvania

One of four in the “Gutty Slam,” this tournament is played over the historic Foxburg Country Club in the hills of Western Pennsylvania, about an hour north of Pittsburgh. It was created in 1887 and is considered the oldest course in continuous use in the U.S. The clubhouse is home to the American Golf Hall of Fame on the second floor, where visitors will find a priceless collection of golf equipment and other exhibits covering the history of golf. The $200 tournament fee includes two days of golf, meals and prizes. (Practice round on Thursday, Aug. 9, is not included in the fee.) This is a pre-1900 event that uses the McIntyre gutty ball (three are given to each player, additional are available at cost). SoHG rules and guidelines for equipment and handicaps. There are acutally two events with several divisions – Open, Senior and Reserve. There is a post-1900 event where modern balls may be used. With small greens and tricky layout, the 2,300-yard course has proven to be quite a test, fair and fun. A bagpiper gets everything started. Lots of shopping and antique stores in the area for non-golfing spouses and friends to explore.
